How Is Absinthe Made?
The process of making absinthe begins with the Holy Trinity of herbs – anise, fennel, and wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). These botanicals are macerated in a neutral spirit, allowing the essential oils and flavors to infuse before distillation.
After distillation, two main types of absinthe emerge:
Blanche absinthe is clear and delicate, often served with ice water.
Verte absinthe gets its natural green color from herbs added after distillation, resulting in a rich and aromatic character.
This traditional method creates the complex, herbal spirit known for its ritualistic preparation and legendary history.
